Elise Brown

Brown has experience in Java, Python, Eclipse Platform, and Arduino Software (IDE). At Duke, she has served as an International House Orientation Peer and is engaged in the Reformed University Fellowship. She also tutors students in math, Spanish and physics. Brown is the vice president of the American Red Cross Youth Council, volunteers at the Bayshore Community Hospital in New Jersey, and serves as the international charity and education partner for Free the Children.

Madeline Briere

Briere is an Angier B. Duke Scholar with experience in Java, C++, C, Arduino, MATLAB, HTML, LaTeX, SQL, MS Suite, CAD, PreForm, and MakerBot. She was an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant for the Data Structures & Algorithms course taught by the Department of Computer Science. In the spring of 2017 she worked at the computing start-up company Marvin Systems at MIT, where she was responsible for designing and 3D-printing a prototype hardware system that aims to be a competitor with Amazon’s Alexa system.

Swathi Balakrishnan

Balakrishnan has programming experience in Java, Python, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Her interests include programming, dance, community service and visual arts. In 2016, she spent 8 weeks in Kolkata, India as part of a DukeEngage program and worked with underprivileged communities to improve community healthcare, teach foundational English, and lead engineering workshops to empower women. She is a member of Duke Rhydhun, a competitive dance team, the Association for Business Oriented Women and Females Excelling More in Math, Engineering, and Science (FEMMES).

Isabel Avery

Avery has experience in programming with Python, Java, Mathematica, LaTEX and is proficient at C++ (ROOT), HTML, CSS, Javascript. In the summer of 2015, she was a paid Computer Science and High Energy Particle Physics Intern at Argonne National Laboratory in Lemont, IL. At Argonne, she implemented ROOT / C++ to develop a particle visualization project, bolstering programming abilities and programmed the collision of high-energy particles in 3D. She is a Student Research Assistant at the Duke Lemur Center in Durham, NC.
