Lu is interested in industrial design, rapid prototyping/testing, and manufacturing for hardware and mechanical products. She is proficient in Java, Matlab, Python, Maple, HTML/CSS, JS, as well as design tools such as 3D-printing, rapid prototyping, Solidworks, SketchUp, Fusion 360 and Rhino. She is a Duke SmartHome Resident and is working on a project to electrify campus outdoor swing benches using solar panels. In 2016, she participated in the Duke Research Scholars Program and worked on 3D printing and optimization of mini vertical wind turbines. And as a Bass Connections team member, she worked on the issue of energy efficiency for fiber optics manufacturing. She is also an active member of the Duke Electric Vehicles team. She is a teaching assistant for CS 201 Data Structures & Algorithms. She is also a HackDuke Track director, and director of tech and communications for the Engineering Student government organization.
