Madeline Briere

Briere is an Angier B. Duke Scholar with experience in Java, C++, C, Arduino, MATLAB, HTML, LaTeX, SQL, MS Suite, CAD, PreForm, and MakerBot. She was an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant for the Data Structures & Algorithms course taught by the Department of Computer Science. In the spring of 2017 she worked at the computing start-up company Marvin Systems at MIT, where she was responsible for designing and 3D-printing a prototype hardware system that aims to be a competitor with Amazon’s Alexa system. She has served as the Co-President of Girls Engineering Change (a Duke student organization), where she promoted female involvement in STEM fields, hosting engineering workshops each semester for K-12 girls in the Durham Community and encouraging mentorship between younger and older members. She was an undergraduate researcher in the Bohórquez Laboratory at Duke, where she led a project to design and build a lab-cage-mounted sensor network (Arduino-based, 3D-printed) capable of consolidating behavioral data from lab animals in order to produce meaningful experimental results. Briere is a PADI certified scuba diver, skier, and an avid pianist.
